Navratri Navdurga
In Navratri 2023, I took up a challenge to paint all 9 forms of Maa Durga in my style. Navratri symbolizes not just our devotion to the divine feminine Maa Shakti, but also our journey into womanhood and embracing each and every part of our femininity. The journey can transcend the physical into spirituality. Through my artwork, I elucidate the 9 forms of Maa Shakti that shed some light on the life of a woman. Navratri teaches us the ultimate experience of womanhood.
Navdurga

Adi Shakti
She’s the energy of the universe, the Mother Nature that nurtures every living being, the protector who fights against evil, the divine feminine.
She’s the kindest and also the most brutal when the situation demands. She’s Shakti, she’s the Tripura Sundari (most beautiful woman in the three worlds) who resides in Manidwipa and in all our hearts.

Maa Shailputri
She is the 1st form of maa Shakti. She is the daughter of mountains. She represents a woman in the form of a daughter, being an embodiment of innocence and purity. Muladhar chakra is governed by her as it’s the starting point of spiritual journey.

Maa Brahmacharini
Brahmacharini is the second form of Navdurga. She penanced for thousands of years to achieve Lord Shiv as her divine consort. She is the epitome of Tapas. Unwavering love and dedication towards her goals are the qualities we humans should learn from her. A woman in her youth years, who is ambitious and goes to high lengths in attaining her goals is emblematised by Maa Brahmacharini.
Swadhisthana chakra is governed by her.

Maa Chandraghanta
Maa Chandraghanta is the form of Maa Shakti worshipped during the 3rd day of Navratri. She is the married form of Maa Parvati. Her forehead is adorned with crescent moon. Her name means bell of the moon. She symbolises divine feminine beauty and grace. The bell sounds the same however you ring it, which spiritually means all the energies are part of the divine oneness. We should accept all the energies and not get caught up in the cycle of feelings. She also instills fear in those who do unjust. She is the perfect blend of beauty and fierce. Seekers can awaken the Manipur chakra by worshipping her.

Maa Kushmanda
On the 4th day of Navratri, we celebrate Maa Kushmanda. “Ku” means little, “Ushma” means energy and “Anda” means cosmic egg. In the beginning of time, when there was no universe, it is said that Kushmanda created the universe from her radiant smile. She represents a woman during childbirth. The light and radiance from Kushmanda are so strong that she has the capability of living in the sun. Anahata chakra can be awakened by her devotion.
Maa Skandamata
Maa Skandamata is worshipped on the fifth day of Navratri. She’s the mother of lord Kartikeya, also known as Skanda. She represents women in their motherhood. Maa carries a very benevolent smile and has a blissful face. She’s the maternal energy present in all of us. She’s seen carrying her son on her lap, which also denotes that she is the mother of the entire universe and she loves us all. On this day, Visuddha Chakra can be awakened by praying to this form of Maa.

Maa Katyayani
Maa Katyayani is the sixth form of Maa Shakti. She was born to sage Katyayan as a boon. The legend says, a demon named Mahishasur was wreaking havoc on earth. In order to stop him and protect the people, all the gods including the Holy Trinity - Vishnu, Shiv and Brahma, combined their powers to create the form Katyayani. She’s also known as Mahishasurmardini as she killed the demon.
Once a woman completes her family duties, she needs to take care of herself and strive for her own goals. Katyayani maa is an inspiration for us women to not tolerate any injustice and fight back. Women have the divine power of Maa Durga.

Maa Kaalratri
Maa Kaalratri is the seventh form of Maa Shakti. She’s the fiercest form amongst the others. Kaalratri has dark skin and disheveled hair and is standing on her husband Shiv, symbolising the raw and carefree nature of maa. Maa is the destroyer of darkness and ego. She looks scary for her enemies but protects her devotees. This form of her also defines the wild, untameable form of Mother Nature. Eventhough, she looks frightening, her heart is always full of love for her children.

Maa Mahagauri
Mahagauri is the eighth form of Maa Shakti. She is said to be the form of Maa during her recovery phase. She’s the epitome of beauty. She has a radiating skin hence, she’s called as Mahagauri.
Maa Siddhidatri
Maa Siddhidatri is the 9th form of Navdurga. She’s known to be the holder of all the siddhis (supernatural powers) and blesses her devotees with these Siddhis. She is the final form of Navdurga. After accomplishing all her duties, she attains high spiritual energy and becomes Mahashakti.
